History of the new town

Marne-la-Vallée is amongst the five « new towns » created by General de Gaulle in the Paris region at the end of the 1960s.

The Local Planning and Development Authority, EPAMARNE, was created by decree on 17th August 1972 in order to follow the « Mission of studies and planning of the Valley of the Marne » created since 1969.

Marne-la-Vallée then only had three districts, today called: la Porte de Paris, le Val Maubuée and le Val de Bussy.

A second Local Authority, EPAFRANCE, was created by decree on 24th March 1987, within the framework of the installation project of the company Euro Disney.
That year the agreement was signed with the State, the Ile-de-France region, the Département of Seine-et-Marne, the RATP and the Walt Disney Company.

A 4th district was created, the Val d'Europe, where the Euro Disney amusement parks would be set up.
